Capital calls: what to expect

How funding works after a GP approves your investment

Once a GP approves your investment in a deal, you'll receive a capital call. This is the formal request to send the funds you committed. Here's what to expect.

What's in a capital call notification

When you're approved for a deal, you'll receive a notification with:

  • The amount you committed

  • A deadline (typically 5-10 business days)

  • Wire instructions for the SPV's bank account, OR a wallet address for USDC

  • A unique reference code specific to your investment

The reference code is critical. It's how the team matches your deposit to your account.

How to send funds

You can fund your investment with:

  • Wire transfer / ACH to the SPV's bank account

  • USDC (stablecoin), converted to USD before deployment

ETH may be added as an option in the future. Other payment methods are not currently supported.

Important: Money goes directly to the SPV's bank account, not to Legion. Legion does not hold investor funds at any point.

After you send

  1. Include your unique reference code with the transfer (this is essential)

  2. The team matches your deposit using the reference code, currently a manual process

  3. You'll receive confirmation once funds are verified

There can be a short delay between your wire arriving and getting confirmation, since matching is done manually for now. Automated matching is planned for the future.

What if my deposit isn't matched?

A few things to check first:

  • Did you send to the right account? Funds should go to the SPV's bank account from your capital call instructions, not to Legion or any other account.

  • Did you include your reference code? Without it, automatic matching won't happen.

If both of those look correct and you're still waiting, see Troubleshooting wire deposits or contact support.

What if a deal is oversubscribed?

If more investors commit than the deal can accommodate, allocations are adjusted, typically pro-rata or based on another methodology chosen by the GP. Investors who are scaled back receive a refund of excess funds.

Refunds are currently handled manually by the team. Automated refunds are planned for the future.

What about staged funding?

Some deals have staged funding, meaning you may receive multiple capital calls over time as the deal draws down committed capital. If your deal works this way, the GP will outline the schedule in the deal documents.

What if I miss the deadline?

Reach out via chat as soon as possible. The GP may have flexibility, or your allocation may be reassigned. Don't assume, communicate.
